WALKING TOURS IN LISBON
Visit the old districts of Mouraria and Alfama.During this walk we will be concentrated in the last 2,500 years of the history of Lisbon. Its settlers have included the Phoenicians, who named it “calm bay”, but was also the stage of settlement to the Romans, whose legacy is still possible to see, and the Muslims, who shaped the old town alleys. Lisbon’s climate and geography were tempting to all the peoples who landed here. And they still are, incidentally.
Until the present day the oldest quarter of Lisbon, Alfama, setting on one of the hills of the city, facing the river, has had important links to maritime activities. Its population maintains a unique lifestyle and sense of community, conditioned by urban density and narrow streets.
In this walk you will see: the Cathedral ; St. Jorge Castle; Viewpoints of St. Luzia and Portas do Sol; Narrow streets of Alfama;Chafarizd’el Rei; Casa dos Bicos and end at the Commerce Square.
Starting point at Rossio Square, in front of D.Pedro IV Statue.
